Costume Details
Yanfei is one of Genshin’s simpler designs, but I chose it because it would give me a chance to perfect my sewing/patterning skills. Genshin cosplays are usually a pain to wear because of all the accessories/awkward layers, but Yanfei is actually very comfy to wear which is a nice change!
Nearly all of Yanfei’s outfit is made from duchess satin, with all of the gold details consisting of EVA foam wrapped in fabric. The hat also utilises EVA to give it a structure base, then I sewed an outer fabric “shell” to cover the foam so that it would match the rest of the costume. Her side bag is also made from EVA so it’s very lightweight!
The horns and many other details were 3D modelled and resin-printed. This resulted in the horns being quite heavy as I hadn’t learnt about creating hollow resin prints at that time, but if I ever remake them I would either print them hollow or mould/cast them from a lighter material.
I debuted this costume at MCM London October 2022 and it remains one of my favourite costumes to travel with to international cons as it’s so compact/light!
